During Stockholm Furniture Fair, Wästberg introduces Sempé w153 developed in collaboration with Inga Sempé. A multi-purpose lamp that can be clamped, placed on a flat surface or mounted on a wall. The lamp is equipped with an energy-effcient, high quality LED and an adjustable shade with magnet construction that enables smooth movement and easy assembly
from compact packaging.
Here is what the designer says about the lamp. Just as with folding chairs compared to normal ones, clamp lamps don’t have the same status as table lamps. It seems unfair, as clamp lamps are very useful. Maybe it is linked to their unique use and the fact that when not clamped they look like infrms, unable to stand on their own without losing their balance or falling over.
I was always impressed by the clever clamp lamps of my childhood, used in all country houses as you could get them really cheaply in hardware stores.
It’s very simple: a clamp attaches to the socket of an incandescent bulb and a cone shade sliding on the bulb to direct the light. A masterpiece. So, to bring back the happy and light typology of the clamp lamp, the aim for Sempé w153 was to allow for more uses for a basic clamp lamp, making it a multi-purpose lamp. There is a flat base, allowing it to stand on a flat surface. The Lamp can also be mounted on the wall. And, last but obviously not least, there is a clamp to clamp the lamp wherever you need it.

Wästberg
Wästberg launched its premier collection in 2008 and although this newcomer appears to have come out of nowhere – nothing could be further from the truth. Its founder, Magnus Wästberg, was born into the lighting trade and had through experience gained an understanding for the need to fuse aesthetic sensibility with Swedish engineering mentality.
Today Wästberg has a growing catalogue developed in close collaboration with some of the World’s most renowned architects and designers. Including David Chipperfeld, Claesson Koivisto Rune, Ilse Crawford, Industrial Facility, James Irvine, Jonas Lindvall, Jean-Marie Massaud, Nendo, Inga Sempé, Maarten Van Severen and Dirk Winkel. Only with designers like them could Wästberg’s ideas be turned into successful products.
The lamps have been honoured with more than 50 awards for design excellence, including 9 Good Design Awards, 5 Reddot awards, Design Award of the Federal Republic of Germany, Elle Interior Design Prize, the Swedish Design Award, Wallpaper Design Award and Designs of the Year.
