Traditional components of Chinese design sparked the inspiration for the design of the fne-dining restaurant Subu. Fused together with the Scandinavian design style we created a universal aesthetic with strong references to Chinese culture and traditions like the concept of ‘private dining rooms’.
The restaurant is located in a high-end mall in the new fnancial district of Beijing. The grandeur of the space inspired us to install fve custom-designed arcs to stand prominently above the main dining area. The arcs function as a signifcant visual statement while at the same time enclosing and defning the restaurant area.
Inspired by the traditional Chinese private rooms we installed 14 “cocoons”, designed to deliver an exclusive and intimate dining experience. From the outside the organically shaped cocoons are shiny and almost glowing. Once inside they transform into elegantly alluring, intimate pods with an atmosphere of utter extravagance each of them equipped with their own unique interior.
“We designed every element within SUBU, from the food to the tableware, the lighting to the music, the uniforms to the tables and chairs. Every minute detail was thoughtfully considered, evoking an unforgettable fne-dining experience.”
