La Taqueria was born through the idea of creating a modern interpretation of a taco stand that captures the spirit of eating street tacos in Mexico City. The design approach was to use everyday materials in a simple and honest way in order to create pragmatic aesthetic that avoided being “over designed”. The colourful Talavera patterned tiles (hand made in Guadalajara), concrete floors, and the painted menu pay homage to a simple Mexican aesthetic. The scope of work included the installation of a commissary kitchen to support 3 restaurant locations and food product distribution, with a 400 sf food retail space.
