The client’s shop is a soft serve ice cream parlour that uses organic milk as a base ingredient in all of its products. Inspired by the crystalline patterns found in frost, the space interprets the product offering through an irregular motif that was applied through metal wall and ceiling panels. This pattern also references an abstraction of the shop’s logo and identity, and playfully suggests the store's product: ice cream.
Working with a tight budget, the metal panels became the main focus of the project. The intention was to develop an immersive front-of-house experience to draw customers in from the street. Patrons are given the sensation of entering a walk-in freezer lined with frost. Through an iterative design process of simplification and standardization, the sizing and coordination of these panels was key in providing a high quality experience. Held off the wall and back lit with LED strips, the perforated panels cast shadows giving the walls and ceiling depth.
The client is extremely meticulous and methodical about the presentation of the ice cream; toppings are individually placed by hand. The design of the toppings bar showcase such attention to detail with a crisp clean layout and custom topping containers.
