As a zero-energy building, the "HELIX" sets a milestone for a sustainable image change of the district. The new building was cleverly integrated into a listed building complex from the 1950s, whereby the historic façade was preserved and is a reminder of the location's past. At the same time, the building is aiming for a DGNB Platinum award: For this, air conditioning through active tiles, rainwater recovery, automated light management and natural materials were used. Instead of conventional air conditioners and boilers, an environmentally friendly ice bin and a heat recovery system ensure pleasant temperatures. Solar panels, rainwater collectors and energy-efficient high-performance glazing are also part of the sustainability concept.
