The Office Group (TOG), a leading provider of flexible office space, asked Shed to reimagine their freehold building at 24 Greville Street, ready for the opening of the Farringdon Crossrail station opposite. This is the third site that Shed has completed for TOG.
Taking cues from the craft of the Farringdon neighbourhood over the years (from diamond jewellers to blacksmiths), the driving idea was to Celebrate The Maker.
24 Greville Street is a converted warehouse building, with some very high ceilings and some very large windows. Period features of the building have been revealed and celebrated - sanded pine floorboards and exposed brick provide a textured and natural backdrop to the new scheme.
The characterful building has been updated with crafted details and contemporary planes of texture. Finish peacock green wool fabrics, tan leather, and cobalt blue iron columns. The rugged beauty of the engineering workshop comes through in black and gold metalwork. The building was fully occupied by TOG during the renovation, so to avoid disturbing existing clients, works had to take place out-of-hours over 4 phases and 19 weeks.
The building is now more conducive to contemporary ways of working, including co-working lounges. Clients have a variety of places to meet and work away from the offices, whether lively, quiet, bright or intimate.
With meeting rooms, cycle storage, showers, co-working lounges and phone booths, the occupiers of the building have everything they need for business success.
“It’s always a joy to work with TOG, as they’re very keen that each site has its own identity. By revealing the soul of the building, we hope we have given the occupiers a brighter, more social, more stylish, and more productive space to work.”
Rowan Taylor, Designer, Shed
“We hadn’t touched the building for 10 years so it needed some love. Part of that was a refresh with the styling of the space and part was being more generous with areas everyone in the building can use. It is gorgeous and we are so happy with this complete transformation.”
