A flexible office furniture system lets you set up a modern library
A shelving and cabinet system has to be flexible and able to adapt to its user’s requirements. The office furniture programme in Roche-La-Molière has demonstrated how flexible system4 is.
L’Opsis media library benefits from system4
In the impressive landscape of the French Massif Central, the architectural office Chabanne et Partenaires has created a modern building suffused with light. The challenge in furnishing the media library was to harmonise the open architecture with the requirements and expectations of the users.
The solution: system4, which had only recently been introduced in France. Thanks to the flexibility of the system’s furniture, the media library could be completely equipped with system4 components. “One of the strengths of system4 is its modular concept,” says Marco Eckel, our system4 expert. “Any conceivable construction can be realised with four basic components – connecting pipes and nodes, shelves and accessories – from a rolling container right through to a shelving wall.”
From modular to individual
Classical bookshelves, newspaper display racks, media containers and the cabinets for the administration were all constructed with system4 components. About 8,000 books, 5,000 DVDs and 7,000 illustrated books are now ready for the media centre’s users.
The joint analysis and planning was a decisive factor in the centre’s success. system4 was assembled in a totally customised manner, in collaboration with the specialist dealer PSA Aménagement. For instance, the children’s titles are in low rolling containers – in contrast to the DVDs for teenagers and adults, which are displayed in standard rolling containers. In all cases, system4’s strengths extend to a range of useful extras, such as magnetic dividers and bookends.
Functional design – everyday robustness
A media library always has a certain flair. This is also the case with the media library in Roche-la-Molière, which is a relaxing space, where you can easily find books and media or retire to spatially accented sanctuaries.
The media centre is also a community space and it is often used by the region’s inhabitants. This is an endurance test for a cabinet and shelving system, and one which the system4 easily passes. The shelves, which can hold a maximum load of 30kg, stay stable even under the weight of heavy photography books and compendia.
A special solution becomes the standard
system4 grows with its users’ requirements The example of the media library shows how the modular system can be individually set up to meet a variety of different purposes. Whether it’s a library, a doctor’s practice, a university or an information centre – system4 from viasit will make it look good every time.
