Let there be light: Prolicht

What would be the value of the ideally designed room if it couldn’t be seen? Ultimately, it is light that breathes life into a setting, creates the right ambience, provides security and accentuates the architecture. The Tyrolean lighting specialist PROLICHT has taken it upon itself to perfect how we deal with and make use of light, and it offers tailor-made solutions for any space.


The new highlight

The hybrid profile system HYPRO 40 is predestined to fulfil this lofty aspiration. It is a true all-round talent whose great versatility stems from the broad range of lamps, different diffusers and colourful covers included in the system. A selection of 30 special PROLICHT colours, recently expanded with five new metallic colours, is available for the profile elements and inserts.

And this is just the beginning of the system’s diversity. HYPRO 40 offers architects and planners myriad design options, thanks to the ability, on the one hand, to choose profiles of any length and, on the other, to run the lighting along the ceiling and walls as desired. This is made possible by the various connectors that can be configured in the wide variety of colours. In this way, the flexible light modules can be assembled in any formation, reassembled and exchanged.

One system, many possibilities

With a working life of over 50,000 hours and various light colours ranging from 2,700 to 4,000 kelvin, HYPRO 40 ensures a long, full lighting life. The system includes linear couplers, vertical and horizontal connecting pieces and T- and X-connectors, and accommodates the integration of, for instance, the linear MAGIQ Wallwash with special multifaceted Bartenbach reflectors, or low-glare downlights with an optional corona effect. The coloured channels – set-back aluminium covers – available in all lengths are the icing on the cake, affording designers yet more creative freedom.

In addition, in-house expertise went into the development of the RICO reflector with integrated CUT-OFF, which can be easily built into the profile system via the RICO line and makes the HYPRO 40 into a profile lamp with a very high light level. What makes this new reflector special is that it can realise UGR values below zero – an absolute first in the lighting industry. This makes RICO perfectly suited for use in classrooms and offices, where high-quality lighting without glare is required – and it doesn’t compromise the flexibility of the overall system. As a further option, PROLICHT offers the HYPRO-X version, which makes possible supplementary indirect lighting that can be switched on separately.

Hidden talents

There is much that can’t be seen at first glance, however, because behind the refined exterior design is a concentration of sophisticated technology that only reveals its outstanding qualities during direct application. The light emitted by HYPRO 40 with the integrated RICO reflector is absolutely glare-free. This allows the eye to remain relaxed at all times and keeps visibility consistently good. The second point may come as a surprise: Due to the linear course of the lighting, no shadows are formed, even when, for example, the user is bending his head over a book at a desk.

A further convincing attribute of the system is its light output in comparison with that of a microprism. At 30 watts of electrical power, the latter yields about 550 lux. At full output, HYPRO 40 with the new reflector achieves 3,000 lux. With the light output dimmed to just 30 per cent, the room is still illuminated to nearly 1,000 lux.

Spatial flow

HYPRO 40 can be used anywhere light plays an important role. Its pronounced flexibility makes the system an independent design element unto itself – whether integrated directly into the surface, mounted on it or in the suspended version. This makes it an asset to showrooms, educational and other public facilities, hotel lobbies, restaurants and private spaces, not least because it can bring special emphasis to significant architectural lines.

Its custom configurability enables HYPRO 40 to overcome spatial boundaries and create uninterrupted, three-dimensional streams of light. The bottom line: this uniquely flexible product concept is precisely what makes the lighting solutions that are perfectly tailored to the site and the situation so exciting – for both architects and their clients.
