Smarter Home – Busch-Jaeger 140th anniversary

Future topics such as energy efficiency and intelligent networking were among the things in focus at Busch-Jaeger's trade fair presentation at the IFA in Berlin. For the sixth time this year, the market leader in electrical installation technology from Lüdenscheid set up its 420 square metre stand in Hall 2.2’s best location: just steps away from crowd-pulling ARD’s large exhibition studio. The Busch-Jaeger trade fair programme was flanked by two international press events on the EUREF campus in Berlin immediately before the official start of the fair, for which the parent company ABB was responsible.

Busch-Jaeger also used the IFA as a platform for a colourful 140-year birthday party. To live music from Cologne band ‘Joshville’, a large birthday cake was cut and distributed among visitors. This year, 140 years of Busch-Jaeger was also the leitmotif of the entire trade fair appearance in the capital, at which the company presented numerous new developments. These included the first cross-linkable carbon monoxide detector for the smart home. Carbon monoxide (CO) – chillingly referred to as ‘silent death’ – is particularly dangerous because it is odourless and invisible. Current data from the Federal Statistical Office show that the number of deaths from carbon monoxide poisoning has risen significantly in recent years.

Networking is a top priority at Busch-Jaeger: The company has recently opened the interfaces of its successful smart home programme ‘Busch-free@home’ to providers from many other areas of technology. Household appliance manufacturers such as Miele and Bosch (Home Connect) can dock on just as well as companies from the sanitary/heating/air conditioning sector, digital language assistants such as Amazons Alexa, burglar alarms, climate sensors, door communication systems, lighting controls and much more. By installing a photovoltaic system that can be integrated into the Busch-free@home smart home system, homeowners can become self-sufficient and achieve up to 90 percent energy self-sufficiency.

The Smarter Home Configurator developed by Busch-Jaeger met with particularly strong interest from trade fair visitors. This innovative tool offers building owners the opportunity to put together their own personal Smart Home on a PC with Busch-Jaeger components. The result: an inclusive-price, electrical planning system from the socket to the blinds switch, and which can serve as the basis for installation by your electrical specialist.

Among the prominent guests at the stand were actor and musician Wilson Gonzales Ochsenknecht and Tagesschau presenter Jan Hofer, who did not miss the opportunity to interview Busch-Jaeger press spokesman Simon Graeber live in front of the camera on the subject of Smart Home.
