Developer Stefan F. Höglmaier in collaboration with architect Peter Haimerl has achieved an unusual transformation of a historic farmhouse in Munich’s Alt-Riem district. Careful restoration on the one hand and a radical reinterpretation of the interior on the other also provided the perfect setting for the use of progressive Deque designer fittings by Dornbracht.

×The restoration and conversion of the 18th century farmhouse into a spectacular duplex is ground-breaking, with the architectural concept starting from two premises: Preservation of the historic building fabric while introducing spatial innovation. Thus, the interior of the former stable is now defined by a concrete cube that is rotated by 45 degrees and inserted into the roof, which is aligned to the geometry of the existing building and extends across its entire length.

×Alongside it, a second residential unit has been created that preserves the historic as far as possible and allows it to be perceptible. The bathrooms, too, within this contrasting architectural field of tension are unique. Using exposed concrete and expressive lighting, planners have created unique spaces, which in turn provide a unique context for the use of Dornbracht’s iconic designer fittings. Their design language is based on five principles: proportion, precision, progressiveness, personality and performance. Thus, the products are underlined by architectural principles such as the golden ratio – for a design that radiates calm and clarity. The fittings are precisely manufactured with a high degree of craftsmanship and with much attention to detail. Notwithstanding this, all are progressive in terms of design and are often years ahead of contemporary tastes.
As part of its long-standing collaboration with Sieger Design, Dornbracht develops trendsetting products with a high degree of recognition value that combine aesthetics, emotionality and ease of use. Moreover, the company maintains an ongoing dialogue with independent artists, musicians, architects and designers. This engagement with art and culture serves as a seismograph for social developments and shapes the company’s attitude and cultural identity.
