Custom-made shade: MARKILUX

It all started in the basement of the Schmitz-Werke weaving mill, where the first awnings were made by hand in 1972. Even back then, they satisfied the most exacting quality expectations. Now the brand is an innovation leader, operates as an independent enterprise and still belongs to the family-run company that is now in its fourth generation. Today markilux customers can choose from more than 45 awning models and more than 250 fabric patterns – all of them certified according to the Oeko-Tex 100 standard. Developed by textile designers on the basis of trend analysis, the fabrics come from right next door: they’re woven by markilux’s sister company Schmitz Textiles. That’s unique in Germany! “It allows us to respond to customers’ every request quickly and only use the very best quality materials,” says technology and production director Michael Gerling.

The family-run company has always set new standards when it comes to technology as well. To ensure customers get the most out of being in the fresh air, markilux also offers five ingenious systems for open spaces. And there are all sorts of extras for adapting the models even more perfectly to their owners’ individual preferences: remote control, quiet motors, rain, sun and wind sensors, lighting and radiant heaters. Recently, the Münsterland-based company even launched an awning app! With markilux, there are no limits to enjoying the garden.
