The message is loud and clear. Acoustics in the workplace matter. Full disclosure: my hearing isn't as great as it once was. Maybe it's an age thing. Or maybe you reach a certain point in your life when you just can't keep that personal noise threshold up anymore. Whichever, aurally disruptive offices make for less effective and less satisfied teams. And, concomitantly, unmanaged sound brings with it very real management issues.

The combination of glass, hard flooring and high ceilings makes for a negative effect on acoustics. DISC ensures comfortable acoustic conditions in quieter places, such as the waiting areas

As part of its total-solutions offering to interior architects and others involved in the design and planning of offices fit for today’s dynamic work environments, Palmberg has invested in a new production facility a short drive from its Schönberg HQ in Northern Germany, dedicated to the manufacturing of high-performing acoustic elements.

Poster child for the company’s portfolio of acoustically active products is the super-graphic DISC – imagine an outsized CD – which functions as both a sound-absorbing device and a space-dividing and privacy-lending screen. Beyond its friendly, sculptural form, it lends an air of interaction and play to the office through its moveability. Easily pushed or pulled with just one hand, the rotating DISC tips its hat to today’s increasing culture of gamification.

Offered in a range of colours and materials, DISC can adapt easily to a wide variety of interior-design concepts

Moreover, its textile-covered surface is pinnable, making it even more personalisable, as well as personable.

So, don’t be square. Time to get on board with the circle.
