×Introducing itself for the first time at the Salone del Mobile design fair in Milan this year, Dutch brand Satelliet Originals is intent on making an impression, and a cheerful one, at that. With its striking new novelty, the bar stool ReUnited, one is instantly transported back in time to the 1920s, when shiny, glittery, ornate dresses and jazzy big bands set the tone.
‘A chair is one of the hardest things, but also one of the most beautiful things to design’ says Lars Snellaars, the designer behind Satelliet Originals' new ReUnited collection

×A century later and the twenties are back again. The intervening years have, of course, witnessed countless changes, but now, as then, we find ourselves with a desire to search out festivity, celebration and liveliness. ‘This chair is soft and round and it’s comfortable enough to sit on for a whole evening’, is how the designer of the chair, Lars Snellaars describes it. ‘In addition, the chair rotates, so you can see everyone coming in while sitting at the bar. And then those fringes; you don't need them, but they do make everything more fun.’
‘Satelliet is known for creating places that people remember, and we wish to bring this collection further into Europe as a tool for architects to imagine and design incredible interiors’
Satelliet Originals is a signature brand, owned and run by Dutch experts in hospitality furniture, Satelliet. For more than 50 years, Satelliet has offered customised furniture to the contract market, first and foremost in The Netherlands itself, but also in Belgium, Luxembourg, the neighbouring Nordic region as well as in the UK. ‘With Satelliet Originals, we are now ready to go even further,’ says the company's marketing manager, Roy Keultjes, ‘Satelliet is known for creating places that people remember, and we wish to bring this collection further into Europe as a tool for architects to imagine and design incredible interiors.’

×Scrolling through the Satelliet Instagram account, one is met with quirky, colourful and extravagant interior projects as well as elegant, classy and modern settings. It’s obvious that diversity and customisation are keywords for this Dutch furniture editor. Listening carefully to customers' needs and having the capacity, size and capability to realise even the most unconventional ideas, Satelliet is able to deliver the furniture to match the vision.
Chairs like Fioli, Ylfi and Biscuit express a certain playfulness and eccentricity that is inherent in the DNA of Dutch design
The Satelliet Originals collection proposes that same level of diversity. With a broad mix of versatile and discreet objects, next to unique and joyful designs, Satelliet Originals communicates that it can cater for a wide range of different tastes and a diverse range of projects. Yet, as alluded to in its name, this is also a brand that has an edge to it, a company that proudly celebrates the peculiar.

×Chairs like Fioli, Ylfi and Biscuit express a certain playfulness and eccentricity that is inherent in the DNA of Dutch design. Dutch design agency Buro Now is the designer behind Biscuit. The studio proclaims that they want their designs to pop! And with a reference to an all-time classic, the curvy Thonet chair, they found their own expression in Biscuit’s cartoonish format: ‘A bit of Mickey Mouse, too,’ the designers say, ’We are not into jokes in design, but we are not averse to humour, either.’
Food for thought: ‘Design is meant to be consumed, so it has to be tasty,’ say Satelliet Originals collaborators Stijn van Woerkom and Victor le Noble of Buro Now, designers of Biscuit

×Apart from aesthetics and functionality, practicality is priority number one in the hospitality sector, where furniture is used and handled very differently from furniture made for residential projects. ‘We are very aware of the requirements from our clients; sturdiness and high quality are a must,’ says Keultjes. ‘Our furniture is strong and made for extensive use.’
‘Be an original’ is the brand’s slogan – a fitting one for a company that celebrates not only the uniqueness of its products but also the diversity and daring of the team behind them.
