It can be difficult to get excited about something we cannot see, but the magic of invisibility should not be taken for granted. Glass is perhaps the most magical material man has ever created, as it can be used to create the illusion of being immersed in our environment whilst remaining indoors, protected from the elements.

Sky-Frame specialises in glazing solutions that elevate the magical qualities of glass to new heights, concealing the window frames and virtually removing the barrier between us and our surroundings. Inspired by the Bauhaus vision of ‘free-flowing space’, Sky-Frame’s frameless sliding glass doors allow indoor and outdoor space to merge, creating a unified living environment. The technically advanced solutions become part of a building’s architecture, with almost no interruptions to the views.

‘In an architect’s ideal world, the indoors and outdoors are separated by as little material as possible,’ says architect Bjarke Ingels in a film made by Sky-Frame at his home in Copenhagen. Ingels lives on a converted ferry and his inventive use of Sky-Frame’s Classic window system demonstrates how the products can enhance the relationship between interior spaces and their surroundings. ‘By constantly striving for perfection,’ he adds, ‘Sky-Frame has successfully reduced all minor necessities to invisibility wherever it was able to.’

Sky-Frame continues to strive for new standards in technology and works alongside architects to exploit the magical invisibility of glass. Its full-height frameless windows disappear into integrated wall pockets, while curved glass surfaces can be used to create organic designs, and sloped sliding windows generate a distinctive spatial geometry. In the same way that a magician never reveals his secrets, these technically advanced solutions completely conceal their precise Swiss engineering, ensuring that the view and not the window is all you see.
