1zu33 is an internationally operating studio for interior design, architecture and spatial communication. Under the leadership of Hendrik Müller and Georg Thiersch an interdisciplinary team develops unique concepts for spatial design and staging. The award-winning work includes the fields of retail design, exhibition design, hospitality, workspace and living.
1zu33 provides businesses from different sectors with the development and implementation of concepts for spatial brand communication. The objective is to develop sustaining strategies and to establish long-term relationships with the clients. The current customer portfolio includes brands such as Aesop, Gaggenau and Occhio, whose three-dimensional brand identity is decisively shaped by the work of 1zu33.
In the last years, the studio's projects have received many high-profile awards including the IF Communication Design Award, Red Dot Design Awards, German Design Award, Iconic Award, Restaurant & Bar Design Award. During the last years, 1zu33 has been listed in the top 50 of the most considered rankings of the German creative industry.
Biography
Hendrik Müller
Hendrik Müller is founder of 1zu33, since 2007 he manages the studio together with his partner Georg Thiersch. Born in 1973, he studied Architecture and Design from 1994 to 2001 at the Staatliche Akademie der Bildenden Künste in Stuttgart. David Chipperfield, who was one of his teachers in the academy had a major impact on his further development as an Architect. In 1999 he founded 1zu33 in Stuttgart while he was studying. In 2001 he started teaching as an assistant at the professorial chair of the british Architect Richard Horden and moved to Munich. Besides giving numerous lectures in Germany and abroad, in 2015 Hendrik Müller has been appointed as a member of the Art Director’s Club Germany. In 2017 he was appointed as a guest professor for the Staatliche Akademie der Bildenden Künste in Munich.
Georg Thiersch
Born in 1973 in Munich, Georg Thiersch studied Architecture and Design from 1994 to 2001 at the Staatliche Akademie der Bildenden Künste in Stuttgart. He his studies contained Architecture and Design as well as parallel studies at the faculty of product design. Strongly influenced by his Prof. David Chipperfield and Prof. Richard Sapper and within the program of the Taut Stipend his first proffessional steps lead to a employment at Gluckmann Mayner Architects, NY. 2004 Winner of the Europan 7 architectural competition. In free collaboration with the Kyrein/Hadrys GbR. development of the urban masterplan for the Reese Barracks in Augsburg. 2005 - 2006 founding member of PULK Berlin, a interdisciplinary agency in the field of brand consulting and communication-design. Since 2007 he manages the studio together with his partner Hendrik Müller.
