Architrend Architecture is an architecture firm that approaches design as an interdisciplinary venture where minimum form results in maximum effect. The design process, the entire project, starts with the client's needs, site and environment exploration, and a dedication to the highest design principles. Extreme attention to detail marks the construction phase.
Architrend partners Gaetano Manganello and Carmelo Tumino have been designing and building public offices, resorts and detached family houses with a contemporary, minimalist and direct approach since from 1989. Their headquarters on the outskirts of Ragusa – designed by Manganello and Tumino themselves – is a construction of reinforced concrete and covered in glass, a building with a strong character that achieves the maximum functional outcome with a minimum of formal means.
Their projects have been published in major national and international media such as Casabella, Electa, Interni, Edilizia e Territorio, A10, Braun-publishing, Archdaily, as well as several publications in China. Architrend Architecture has received many prestigious design awards including the 2009 'G.B. Vaccarini Quadranti di Architettura' award, the 2010 and 2011 'Ance Catania' awards, and also in 2011 'Metra Sistema d’Autore' awards. In 2012, selected for the 'XIII Venice Biennial' in 2017 they won the international award 'Bar/Ristoranti/Hotel d'Autore' with the project Alba Palace Hotel in Favara.
They have lectured and exhibited at many universities as well as at several national and international design conferences and have taken part in various exhibitions of architecture including: Sicily-Catania Architecture 2006, Chicago 2007; Contemporary Architecture in Sicily, Selinunte 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, Rome 2011, Tokyo 2011 Italy Now, Toronto-Vancouver 2012; Brand Italy Exhibition of Excellence Doha 2014, Changing Architecture Ragusa, Palermo, Favara, Catania, Enna, Caltanissetta 2017/2018.
