À propos de Kohseki
EN SAVOIR PLUS SUR KOHSEKI
Japan and Denmark. Two countries that treasure the warmth of wood, that knows every aspect of its characteristics, and that excels in elevating woodwork to the level of art. These two countries, sharing these same elements, have been brought together by Kohseki. The Danish lifestyle of "hygge" (gathering, harmony, comfort) is filled with the enriching scent and touch of wood, which is in beautiful harmony with the traditional sensibilities and woodworking art of the Japanese. Japan and Denmark, two countries which share their love and respect for wood, have come together through Kohseki to provide you with a living environment that is rich in forms and subtle charms.
A Meeting of Master Craftsmen from the Two Countries
Kohseki was established in July 1984 by Yoshiaki Nakamura as a design & construction company of sukiya style buildings (tea-ceremony house) for Japan's leading sukiya building company, Nakamura Sotoji Komuten. In 1988, Kohseki welcomed joiner Yoshihiro Torihara and Danish furniture maker Soren Matz, to create a Joinery and Wood Work Division and a Danish Furniture Division, to enhance the technical sophistication in these areas. This is what is at the foundation of Kohseki today.
At the time of establishment, the Danish Furniture Division concentrated solely on the building of special order-made furniture. However, it gradually spread its business to include the import of select high-quality Scandinavian furniture. Today, it is involved in a broad range of design projects including residential houses, restaurants and hotels both within and outside of Japan.
Craftsmanship that Merge Beauty of Form and Functionality
"A chair is only complete when a person sits on it."
The essence of Danish furniture making is epitomized in these words by Hans J. Wegner. Finn Juhl, one of the highlights of our collection, is world renowned as a "sculptor of furniture" for having brought outstanding constructional planning and unique design into perfect harmony. Its elegance of form achieved only by hand, eliminating all unnecessary embellishments, is sophisticatedly fused together with ergonomic functionality developed through many years of experience as a master artist, resulting in a design that is simple yet refined. This is combined with the touch, feel and durability of the "real thing" that is only achieved from all-natural wood.
Danish modern furniture based on philosophy of form, and the Japanese traditional sense of beauty and craftsmanship, come together in beautiful harmony in the furniture and Japanese buildings that are produced by Kohseki. The company boasts a unique lineup of highly selective furniture, a selection that only Kohseki can provide as the company that first discovered the wonderful compatibility of Japanese traditional architecture and Danish furniture. Our lineup includes rare masterpieces that are the envy of collectors in Europe and the United States.
Kohseki promises to provide you with only the highest quality products that will enrich your every day for a lifetime of enjoyment.
