Profile
Luca Selva starts his own office in Basel in 1991. The first works are small conversions. In 1993 the office manages a breakthrough by winning the competition for the extension of the Kaltbrunnen school building in Basel (in association with Jean-Pierre Wymann) and construction follows in 1995-96. The building wins several awards and is widely published on an international scale. Starting in 1999 various housing projects are put into execution, including the residential house in the historic Bäumlihof area. The office also wins important contests (like the extension of the zoological gardens in Goldau), but construction never starts. In 1999 the Architekturmuseum Basel displayed Luca Selva’s work in its exhibition »Young Swiss Architects«.
The office’s main focus lays with architectural competitions and analysis of questions to urban development. Current projects include:
- City-Gate, an office building in Basel
- Densa-Park, a complex with 100 apartments in Basel
- Oerlikon, a residential development with 60 apartments near Zurich
- Ordos 100, a project for a mansion in Inner Mongolia, People’s Republic of China
- A residential building with 21 apartments on in Basel
as well as various single-family houses.
Based in the Markthalle near central station in Basel, Luca Selva currently employs 15 architects. As of 2009, David Gschwind has been partner and member of the executive board.
