The Veneto region is, as a matter of fact, particularly rich in areas of specialised manufacturing, each with its own tradition and craft identity: a heritage which requires protection and updating through the planning quality of high design and technological and digital knowledge. Portego then connects the skills of the craft manufacturers with talented designers, brought together by their sensitivity towards craft manufacturing techniques and the ability to revive them in contemporary objects with a timeless appeal.
It is a virtuous platform, conceived by Flavia Testi and Stefano Rossi, which – by operating within a limited area – guarantees the quality of human relations between all those involved, traceability of the materials used and the sustainability of the entire production process. Production which is at the same time exclusive and local, which does not conform to industrial product standardisation, in order to follow new and different expressive visions and languages. With local Italian design objects available to the world.
The Inspiration
/Pòr-te-go/ In Venice, the Procuratie Vecchie (old) and Nuove (new) are the most famous, and they cover the entire perimeter of Saint Mark's Square, imposing their regular, wide and relaxed rhythm on one of the most famous squares in the world. They are porticos, the covered arcades which are one of the most widespread architectural features in the whole city of Venice and a distinctive characteristic of the lagoon city. Portego means “portico” in the Venetian language, and it is an homage to one of the city's most symbolic elements.
