The origin of Slate-Lite was already in the 90s:

Gernot Ehrlich produced table fountains and tables from regular slate plates in the USA at this time. The slate boards were bonded with epoxy resin on MDF boards.

Slate-Lite was invented by chance when breaking down one of those regular slate boards: A thin layer of slate remained on the glued MDF board.

Gernot Ehrlich immediately saw the potential for an extraordinary product and experimented with various carrier materials, until finally he came up with today's solution.

Slate-Lite's serial production however started much later:

R&D GmbH has been selling the paperthin slate of Slate-Lite in more than 35 countries since 2002.
