Profile
Our ambition is to create spaces for people and their dreams. We create surprising concepts out of seemingly contradictory information. Our area of activity is new construction, transformation of existing buildings and their surroundings and interior design. We work from the big idea to detail, with a passion for light and meeting spaces, always to realize a vital and sustainable living environment.
Every project is different, every building is different, and every client is different. That makes our take on architecture divers and unexpected. Yet, there are recognizable themes in our work. Themes that are repeated. Sometimes because of a view or opinion, sometimes because of a feeling, sometimes because of an objective, sometimes because of an еxperience. To live is to participate in life. Architecture is a stage for experiences.
Spaces for people
People of all ages feel at home in our buildings. They find there their own spot to live, to work, to study or to play. In a building that they can be proud of.
Buildings with a heart
Through the arrangement in great detail of the various functions and the traffic areas, all our buildings create a natural focus of activities. A place where people love to get together.
Daylight comes from above
The sun provides light, creates life and gives colour to each season. Typical Dutch skies are not famous for nothing. The broad and inventive use of daylight brings to life the architecture of our buildings.
Part versus whole
In our designs we continually work to ensure that all the little parts fit perfectly and a balance is created between the entire concept and the thoroughly thought-out detail.
Sleek and full of life
We design and construct buildings that are sleek and have vitality. So much vitality that future generations will also use and maintain them with love. And with so much character that at any time in the future they will be suitable for another use.
Round table
The round table symbolizes complete consultation. About the goal, the possibilities and the context of the project. Both with the client and by Studio personnel. A cross pollination of views and opinions. What really matters? Together, how can we achieve that?
Leon Thier (b.1953) studied architecture and the history of architecture at the Technical University in Eindhoven, Holland (1971-1978 with an honourable ArchiPrix mention) and was asked to join his professor Dick Apon in the latter’s architectural firm. Atelier Pro became his place of work in 1984 as an architect at first and he was promoted to one of the architect-directors in 1990. Then, in 2005, he was appointed chair of the management group. He realized many projects, everything from municipal scale to interiors, both new construction and the transformation of existing buildings.
His often award winning designs included also complex and new industrial projects. In 2007, Leon decided to start his own architectural company: Studio Leon Thier Architects with the ambition to specialize in exploring their chosen profession in even greater depth. Central to their work is their “round table”, symbolizing the approach to each project in order to best realize the dreams of both the client and the user.
The scope of their range of projects has not diminished: “from an entire town to a single chair”. In co-operation with other building related companies, Studio Leon Thier is capable to bring to fruition even the most complex projects. In addition to his vast practical experience, Leon taught for 10 years at the “Academie voor Bouwkunst” (Academy for Architecture) and was an active member of several Boards.
