Threefold Architects

Threefold Architects are a highly skilled team of talented and experienced architects and designers creating thoughtful and considered contemporary architecture which is carefully composed, beautifully crafted, and uplifting to inhabit. Over the past 15 years they have designed a wide range of unique, highly successful, internationally published, award winning buildings and spaces in the workplace, housing, arts and civic sectors at a variety of scales from a single rural artists studio to an urban mixed use development of 65 dwellings. To date they have collaborated with companies and organisations including the World Bank, Airbnb, Pocket Living, Lendlease and The Crown Estate, often working within complex existing buildings to deliver inspirational and flexible workplaces which adapt to new modes of working.

THREEFOLD have established a reputation for being at the forefront of both workplace and housing design. They understand how modern modes of living and working are evolving, the emerging challenges and opportunities for each sector and the convergence between them. Central to their approach is a genuine enjoyment in developing clear strategic concepts, an enthusiasm for yielding a unique architectural response to each site and context and commitment to delivering quality regardless of project size. This bespoke service results in a distinctive solution for each project, specific in how spaces are organised, shaped and occupied, inventive in the materials chosen and meticulously detailed in how they go together. Coupled with their innovative design process, is an ongoing discourse with those who will be touched by each scheme whether they are the client, user or community.

Renée Searle
Renée was born in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in 1976. She graduated from the Bartlett School of Architecture in 2000 after being awarded a 1st class honours degree, Diploma Commendation and the Fitzroy Robinson Drawing Prize. Renée joined Threefold Architects as full time Director in January 2009, bringing with her an expertise in sustainable design, and significant experience in working on cultural and community projects and the management of complex consultation exercises with large client bodies, local authorities and user groups.

Renée was project Director for Murray Mews which was shortlisted for the AJ Retrofit Awards 2013. She is currently Project Director for a residential development of 15 new dwellings in Oxfordshire and 17 new roof top extensions for a multi- headed client in West London. Renée has taught design at University College London, University of the Arts and has headed a lecture seminar course titled Sustainable Housing in London at Syracuse University.

Matthew Driscoll
Matthew was born in London in 1976 and graduated from the Bartlett School of Architecture in 2000. Matthew co-founded Threefold Architects in 2004 and has been central to the development and success of the practice pushing an ongoing interest in the synergy between traditional craft and emerging technologies and construction techniques.

He has pioneered the use of off-site fabrication and cross laminated timber construction on several of our projects, including the award winning Ladderstile House and The Bridge, the innovative new workspace headquarters for Bathroom Brands. Matthew also has a keen interest in education, acting as a guest lecturer and critic at Liverpool University and University College London as well as running regular architecture workshops in local secondary schools and our recent collaboration with the charity Street Child World Cup.

Jack Hosea
Jack was born in Norfolk in 1975 and graduated from the Bartlett School of Architecture in 2000 after being awarded a 1st class honours degree and the RTKL Travel Scholarship. Since founding Threefold Architects in 2004, Jack has developed a specialism in the design of complex, bespoke projects and demonstrated an exceptional commitment to communication and delivery. He has extensive knowledge of working with existing and listed buildings and is an expert in dealing with intricate planning negotiations and projects in sensitive sites.

Jack was project architect for the Apprentice Store, the conversion of a Grade II Listed former mill building in Bath, awarded an RIBA Conservation Award in 2009 and Turner Street, the reinvention of an existing Victorian industrial building commended in the NLA Awards. Jack has a keen interest in the arts and education, enjoying both collaborating with artists and crafts people in his architectural projects and being a regular visiting critic for University College London and Westminster University.
