Project Brief and background

A landmark of great historical importance as one of the few buildings left standing following the city’s annihilation after the Warsaw Uprising in World War II. Our brief was to introduce contemporary luxury, comfort and style while restoring and refreshing Hotel Bristol’s glamorous Art Nouveau heritage to reinstate the Hotel as Warsaw’s most prestigious luxury Hotel.

Every aspect of the reinvention of the Bristol required careful coordination with the local conservation office to ensure the design was relevant and respectful of the interior architecture. Our priority has been to provide the guest with ultimate comfort and luxury and to deliver glamorous beguiling spaces that will delight visitors beyond expectation.

The marble lined Reception Hall features many bespoke items commissioned specifically for the Bristol. Engraved leather panels to the front desk, the organic art installation of hand beaten brass leaves, a huge wool hand carved rug and appliquéd curtains. Unique details inspired by the artistic movements that have shaped the hotel. The elegant Lobby Lounge has been created at the heart of the hotel providing a place to meet, relax and absorb the grand scale and historical detail of one of Warsaw’s most important buildings. An abundance of freshly cut flowers in white and green sit aloft the central banquette evoking the original intent of a winter garden.

The huge and imposing Column Hall lacked warmth, intimacy and glamour. Once used as a workers dining room during the communist era this hall had become a lost spirit of a space and was greatly underused. The original detail and impressive scale of the room provide a wonderful setting for a grand cocktail lounge. The custom hand made rug runs the full length of the Hall illustrating a modern interpretation of Otto Wagner’s school of design. Simple silhouettes, luxurious textiles combined with one off custom design make this a unique indulgent Lounge Bar.

We seized the opportunity to create an intimate Wine Bar at the front of this prestigious building, preserving all that was precious to the local historians.

The Carrara marble walls and floors were dominant, as was the painted frieze to the walls above. The new bar was to preserve and more importantly enhance, with minimal effect to these finishes.

Walls have been created with bespoke wine displays positioned on the same line as the partition before – so as not to cause controversy at the conservation office. The glazed cabinets define this dynamic new space.

Cast bronze light fittings to the walls and ceiling are a modern interpretation of the organic forms of the Art Nouveau aesthetic.

Black lacquer, beveled mirror and cracked gesso panels combine with the monochromatic palette to provide a luxuriously detailed sophisticated bar.

The hotel’s guestrooms required refreshment and reinvention to provide the guest with an unreservedly Five Star experience of luxury and decadence.

Intense midnight blue walls in the Grand Staircase and Guest Corridors create a sense of drama and anticipation on the approach to the Guestrooms.

In the rooms subtle blends of Art Deco detail sit alongside classical elements which softly reflect on the historic roots of this grand hotel. The understated pale blue and ivory palette of the Guestrooms creates a calming backdrop for the contrasting charcoals and ebony feature elements.

The interiors are designed to meet the needs and desires of the modern traveller in elegant, inspiring surroundings, embracing the hotel’s past whilst celebrating the present.
