The perfect lighting situation in the organic food supermarket Temma in Cologne was developed by the Ansorg Lighting Design Centre jointly with Bio-Konzept GmbH.
Even if the name Temma revives the spirit of the traditional grocery corner shop ("Tante Emma" (Aunt Emma) in German), it is apparently a supermarket of the future. With a style inspired by French covered markets, the brand addresses a clientele consisting of epicureans who are ecologically aware. The interior has nothing of the granola image. Simple presentation of goods, dark ceilings, bright exposed concrete for the floor, Deli areas on oak parquet flooring and simple cellar shelves or wooden tables convey, over roughly 800 square metres, an independent character conveying an image of “back to the origins”.
The motto of this store is based on a pun “Everything is natural” / “Eat natural” and in the wider sense the light is also included. Ansorg’s task was simply defined: the lighting is to underline the quality of the products and to provide the room with a natural atmosphere in keeping with the range of foods. From this starting point, in co-operation with Bio-Konzept GmbH a tailor-made lighting solution was developed that reflects all of the facets of this brand.
Since not only the markets continue to develop, but also lighting technology, 90% of the technology used was HIT technology. In conjunction with intelligent reflector technology and modern ballast equipment, the lamps are convincing due to their high efficiency and low energy consumption – this guarantees their economic efficiency. In addition, for installation a greater distance between the luminaires is possible and this reduces the investment costs. The colour rendition is brilliant, emphasizes the naturalness of the products and can, in combination with appropriate Mood filters, be used flexibly within the supermarket.
A special feature of the lighting concept is the distinctive general ambient lighting achieved with the special luminaire Maxx Factory with Cupola shade. The room is thus homogeneously and pleasantly illuminated, the reduction of contrast provides a soft, gentle atmosphere and nevertheless the range of products is presented with accentuations. Lighting accents are also to be found on the peripheral areas, on the shop window and on the counters. Eye catchers are, for example, the Collection suspended luminaire with coloured shade over the pastries or also, above the Deli islands, the decorative Collection with chintz shades creating a cosy lighting atmosphere and inviting you to linger. A supermarket as a social meeting place – the future version of the grocery corner shop.
