Natural and diffused light played an integral role for the renovation of White & Case’s global law firm and demonstrates how today’s corporate interiors are remodeled to maximize opportunities for daylight harvesting; An inner atrium courtyard provides a natural center for daylight which flows unobstructed through carefully designed glass partitions into its interiors. Carrying the same theme of light and transparency into the interior through-ways, Cooledge TILE was specified throughout this renovation project to provide the primary ambient illumination – a model solution for scalable and sustainable lighting applied without compromise to design continuity.
Cooledge TILE’s paper-thin and modular properties, applied without the need for additional heat sinks, made it quick to install for this in-place renovation project. TILE scales easily to address the large area surface illumination needs of this project beautifully and maximizes interior spaces where floor to ceiling height is typically at a premium. Lighting with mere 4”(76.2mm) set-back in the ceiling cavity, TILE delivers consistently uniform and seamless lighting from the ceiling and acts as the primary source for general illumination throughout this project.
Designed from a warm palette of natural materials, the reception area features an impressive illuminated Onyx wall on each floor, measuring a full 33′ x 8′ (9m x 2.4m), and adds a textural layer of diffused lighting to the reception area. Cooledge TILE (600lm) was chosen specifically for this wall application to deliver enough light to uniformly illuminate the uniquely translucent qualities of Onyx while limiting the depth of the wall cavity within a tight 3” (76.2mm) set-back.
From the expanded lunchroom to the spacious reception foyer, White & Case now provides a contemporary boutique-hotel-like feel for the firm to welcome their staff and international clientele. Light and transparency flows effortlessly throughout the updated space; the result is a refined answer towards sustainable designs that seamlessly incorporate surface illumination into today’s corporate interiors.
