A multi-faceted brief and two clients with disparate styles required a sensitive response from designer Georgie Shepherd. Creating a warm, inviting and contemporary home with flexible spaces were central to the brief, as was a desire to age comfortably in place.
Individually, the clients had very different styles; he, a lover of high-end, contemporary design; and she, a fashion lover with traditional, artisanal leanings. The generous volume of the internal spaces presented the additional challenge of creating in timacy and cosiness when it’s just the two of them. A gentle, neutral colour palette, softly veined feature marble and intricate detailing, paired with artisanal touches by local makers, has resulted in a serene and luxurious home that balances both clients’ aesthetics. Given the couple was downsizing from a long-held family home, it was also important to foster familiarity in terms of layout and flow – an element achieved through meticulous space planning.
Provisions have been made to allow the couple to remain here long-term, including self-contained carer’s accommodation discreetly concealed behind a panelled wall, generous door openings, and concealed safety rails in the shower. The home feels both fresh and familiar, providing a comforting backdrop for the next stage of the owners’ lives.
