Finding harmony between nature and modern design, the Mangrove Work&Stay, nestled in the tranquil coastal town of Goseong, South Korea, is redefining the concept of work and relaxation. This idyllic retreat specifically tailored for remote creatives boasts a carefully curated design philosophy that embraces comfort, functionality, and sustainability. And among the many thoughtful interior design choices, the inclusion of Humanscale products throughout the property elevates its guest experience to new heights, melding seamless ergonomics with eco-conscious sensibilities.
“In designing our first location outside of Seoul, we envisioned a vibrant yet focused community of like-minded digital nomads converging under one roof by the serene sea,” said Jeannie JY Chung, Chief Creative Officer, Mangrove. “Humanscale’s hybrid offerings align perfectly with our ‘Work&Stay’ ideology of creating inviting spaces perfect for a comfortable and commute-worthy guest experience.” At first glance, an alliance between the progressive corporate nature of Humanscale and the traditional tranquility of Goseong might seem unconventional. However, as we delve deeper into the narrative, we discover a harmonious confluence of values and inspirations that transcends geographical boundaries.
Goseong's nurturing landscapes beautifully reflect Humanscale's core philosophy of crafting chairs that synchronize effortlessly with the human body, ensuring unparalleled support. This symbiotic connection between the location’s surroundings and Humanscale's design ethos creates a perfect union, where guests can immerse themselves in the unhurried pace of Goseong's seaside life while experiencing the epitome of productivity and ergonomic excellence.
“Embracing the essence of 'Hybrid Life' work—where individuals thrive in the fluidity of their environments, seamlessly transitioning between work and leisure—is now more relevant than ever” said Todd Bracher, Creative Director and Design Partner, Humanscale. “As the demand for flexible workspaces continues to soar, 'third places' like hotels, cafes, and public areas have become pivotal hubs for productivity and creativity.”
Furthermore, in this “third space” specially catered to brainstorming sessions and moments of profound clarity, guests also become part of a meaningful narrative, celebrating the pursuit of productivity and sustainability hand in hand.
Mangrove Work&Stay's commitment to ecological responsibility found a kindred spirit in Humanscale's eco-conscious approach. From the careful consideration of building materials to the selection of sustainable furniture, each decision reflects a shared vision to address environmental concerns comprehensively.
The Liberty Ocean chairs installed at the Mangrove Work&Stay—which are fabricated with upcycled reclaimed ocean plastic—were attentively specified with sustainability in mind, reflecting the hotel's dedication to environmental stewardship. "Each chair tells a unique story, a story of mindful design and sustainable choices," states Chung. "Guests often comment on the comfort and grace of the chairs, and we take pride in sharing the story of Humanscale's commitment to sustainability."
In the quest for a more sustainable future, the partnership between Humanscale and Mangrove Work&Stay stands as a remarkable model for the hospitality industry. Together, they showcase an elevated “work anywhere” lifestyle, leaving an indelible mark on guests and igniting transformative change and productivity, chair by chair.
“With over 55% of the workforce now embracing hybrid work and 36% of people working in what we’d categorize as the ‘third place’, these trends represent a profound shift in how we approach work-life balance,” Bracher adds. “Our collaboration with Mangrove Work&Stay is a great example of adapting to digital nomads’ ever-evolving needs, ensuring optimal comfort and support wherever their 'Hybrid Life' journey takes them."
