The project is a family home for an art collector. The existing home was an uninspiring 1980’s addition to a Victorian villa. Our brief was to work within the original footprint to create a home to allow for large gatherings and space to display a growing art collection.
Our design approach, which is a thread running between all our projects, was to seek a balance between restraint and exuberance. The restrained base palette of pale timber floors and warm white walls and ceilings creates a background to the Paul Bangay designed garden beyond and the client’s art collection.
The joinery insertions create the top notes with moments of unexpected colour, some highly figured stone and intricate detailing, all balanced against the background palette. Furniture selections also range from neutral to exuberant, again in balance with the overall palette and artwork.
