FOUR SEASONS SEOUL
The highly anticipated opening of the Four Seasons in Seoul proved the skills of the all-star design team. Subtle earthy color schemes provide a modern interpretation of Korean traditions, adorned with daring art installations by both local and international artists.
Light floods through fl oor to ceiling windows drawing the excitement of the city into the building. Seven high-concept bars and restaurants provide an unexpected combination of cuisines and environments. Korean motifs create an architecture that is proudly contemporary in design and unashamedly forward thinking in spirit. Lasvit provided lighting sculptures for several public areas as well as the Presidential Suite.
Crystal Calligraphy
Location: Presidential Suite
Inspired by the Korean alphabet, the wide curves of this lighting sculpture reference the bold and confident brushstrokes of a traditional calligrapher. Rather than depicting the actual paint, the 1,300 kg of hand blown glass reflects a smooth movement of the brush in the air, creating a light and open feeling in the room.
Sea Reflections
Location: Lift Lobby
Minimalistic form depicts nature in this unique glass sculpture
inspired by ocean waves and their reflections in the sun. Meticulously
hand-blown clear and blue glass tubes create light refractions while
two opposing lines within the design symbolize the wave and its
undercurrent in an eternal cycle.
Flutes
Location: Small Ballroom
Inspired by folded traditional cotton fabrics and the repetitive ridges of Korean roofs, the design concept centers on amassing individual hand-blown glass ‘flutes’. The resulting lighting sculpture feels airy and organic despite its considerable weight and span. Crystal clear elements are highlighted with pastel tones, inspired by Korean traditional costumes.
