Located in Paris's twelfth arrondissement, the Hotel Kyriad Bercy has just finished refurbishing its communal areas, all of which have been skilfully redesigned by the Paris-based firm of architects 2A & Azoulay.
The refurbishment works aimed to open up the various spaces, including the hall, reception, lounge, bar, and breakfast room, in order to create a more fluid design and inviting space for guests. Architects Caroline Azoulay and Guillaume Krier looked to use a broad range of different collections by Mosa, which was chosen thanks to the broad range of its products and the various options they offer in terms of juxtaposing different collections of tiles.
While the renovation works have modernized this three-star hotel, they have also imparted an elegance of urban chic, mesmerizing guests with the choice of materials and tones that subtly pick up the light.
Opening up onto an artery of a redeveloped area of Bercy, the exterior of the entrance to the hotel mirrors the tiled interior and is adorned with Mosa Terra Maestricht tiles measuring 30 x 30 centimetres in anthracite. Much like a carpet, the tiling extends into the interior of the hotel's hall, covering the floors in the reception to the lifts and continuing on to the bar and breakfast room, with tiles in the same anthracite colour but measuring 90 x 90 centimetres. This same collection of tiles also rises up the steps of the staircase leading to the mezzanine, with the nosing in Mosa Terra Maestricht tiles, and covers the first floor.
In the breakfast room, the Terra Maestricht floor tiles measuring 90 x 90 centimetres accentuate the area around the spectacular buffet island. This area is demarcated by a section of ceramic tiles arranged in a draughtboard pattern, combining four different tones from the Terra Maestricht collection: cool black, grey green, mid grey, and anthracite, the latter coloured so as to create a seamless link between this ceramic 'carpet' surrounding the buffet island and the floor covered in the same collection of tiles. The resultant pixel effect clearly demarcates the breakfast area island.
