The Sydney Opera House is undoubtedly one of the most iconic buildings in Australia. It is the home Sydney Symphony Orchestra as well as some of the top culinary talent in the country.
Neoz has a long history with the Sydney Opera house site, illuminating several incarnations of the dining space beginning in early 1995 when we collaborated with designer David Skelley to design cordless lamps for Gai Bilson and Janni Kyritsis.
Fast forwarding to July 2015, Bennelong opened it’s door to the public helmed by one of Australia's most celebrated chefs, Peter Gilmore of Quay fame. Already billed as one of the most exciting new openings in Sydney this year the Bennelong has just been awarded ‘Best New Restaurant’ by the Sydney Morning Herald Good Food Guide.
Spanning three tiers, diners savour Gilmore’s creations illuminated by the subtle glow of the Neoz Ice Square cordless lamps whilst taking in the harbour views or absorbing Jørn Utzon’s fabulous architecture. Alternatively take a seat up at the bar or the cured and cultured section on the upper levels for something more casual.
The award winning Neoz Cordless Lamp System was selected by Tonkin Zulaikha Greer Architects due to their desire to preserve the whole spacial arrangement untouched so the diner can feel like they were walking into a cathedral. The cordless flexibility meant no exposed wires or ungainly light fixtures are needed to light up the space. When asked ‘What would you say every visitor must see or do before leaving Sydney?’ Martin Benn of the award winning Sepia (One to watch - The World's 50 Best Restaurants, SMH Good Food Guide Restaurant of the Year) suggested dinner at the Bennelong for great food and views of the city and Harbour Bridge.
