Background:
While maintaining the hotel’s signature style and intimate feel, Rockwell Group is currently restoring the dining environments and several public spaces in the Hotel Bel Air.
Design Concept:
The design for the renovation (due to be completed by July 2011) was inspired by the unique and legendary character of the hotel, known for giving guests the sense of being in a luxurious private residence surrounded by gardens. Some of the historic elements will be restored while adding modern touches to encourage interesting juxtapositions between old and new. The indoor and outdoor environments of the hotel are intertwined, so Rockwell Group is enhancing the connection between the restaurants and the extraordinary garden experiences throughout the property.
Design Details:
Wolfgang Puck at Hotel Bel-Air
In the hotel restaurant, Wolfgang Puck at Hotel Bel-Air, every guest will feel close to the gardens with the addition of an indoor/outdoor patio and windows that open to a lushly planted exterior green wall. A marble-clad hearth flanked by wine cellars creates a central focal point for the restaurant.
While outside, the perimeter of the terrace restaurant will be enlivened with culinary activity to offer a complete casual garden dining experience. A cocktail bar provides a perfect late-night destination and then a great place to eat breakfast in the morning. The open kitchen features a wood-burning oven and newly inspired menu. Private cabanas offer a different way to dine overlooking the swan lake.
Oak Bar
The elegant Oak Bar is a cherished space, so Rockwell Group will only lightly touch its familiar look. The wood paneling will be sanded and stained a graphite color, with large-scale abstract stenciling to bring a more contemporary feel to this classic space. The bar area will be extended into the garden with a new outdoor lounge and fountain.
Meeting and Ballroom Spaces
Rockwell Group designed a series of meeting and ballrooms that are state-of-the-art and quite unique to the hotel. In keeping with the feel of the property, these flexible event spaces are residential in scale with French doors opening onto the beautiful Bel Air gardens.
