In June 2014, the Hyatt Hotels' lifestyle hotel brand opened Andaz Tokyo Toranomon Hills – the first Andaz hotel in Japan – occupying floors 37 and 47-52 of the brand new Toranomon Hills building. SIMPLICITY's creative director Shinichiro Ogata, Designer / Founder of SIMPLICITY, was responsible for designing many of the common spaces, including the rooftop chapel and bar, the 51st floor studios and gallery, and the 37th floor AO Spa.
"The interior design of Andaz Tokyo Toranomon Hills came to life through a creative endeavor between tonychi and associates and SIMPLICITY. We at SIMPLICITY speak with one voice when expressing our gratitude to world-renowned design pioneer Tony Chi for sharing his tremendous experience in high-end hotel interiors for Hyatt. His designs are simple, yet wonderfully bold and overflowing with fun. Andaz Tokyo Toranomon Hills - a Japan first - defining the hotel of the future."

Located in the Toranomon Hills area of Tokyo, Andaz Tokyo is specially crafted as an urban hotel property that extends and integrates the lifestyle, character and energy of the surrounding neighborhood. It is a property that embraces this urban cosmopolitan environment with the hotel's public spaces functioning as open urban "piazzas" or town squares where the neighborhood collectively gathers and integrates with each other. tonychi and associates has enjoyed the collaboration to bring the desired vision of the neighborhood life in the arrival and public areas of Andaz Tokyo.
"I have the highest respect and admiration for Mr. Ogata and SIMPLICITY and tonychi and associates has been most fortunate to share the collaboration with this talented studio. I particularly admire the sense of serenity that SIMPLICITY achieved in the Spa as well as their design of the Rooftop Bar for Andaz Tokyo. Our shared experience with SIMPLICITY and a true sense of character and identity of Japan is exhibited throughout the spaces of Andaz Tokyo. The result for Andaz Tokyo is a property truly made in Japan."

Meaning "personal style" in Hindi, the Andaz brand is known for providing truly personalized hospitality to its guests, creating spaces and services deeply intertwined with the local culture. Andaz Tokyo Toranomon Hills is located in Toranomon, a sophisticated key business district in Tokyo known for being rich in history of the Edo period and for bridging Japan's past with its dynamic future. The hotel was designed to capture the essence of this locale by creating a simple yet functional space focusing on traditional materials and the Japanese aesthetic.
The 52nd floor rooftop includes open-air space – a first for high-rise hotels in Japan. The spaces are fashioned on and reminiscent of a traditional Japanese garden, featuring a stand-alone chapel, rooftop studio, and bar. Each space, with its own unique style, expresses the diversity and duality for which Tokyo is famous. By incorporating materials that become more textured with age and trees and plants at every turn, the interiors are designed so that guests may delight in the change and growth of the spaces as they mature with passing time.
Located on the 51st floor are studios customizable to a variety of events, including the Chef's Studio with an open show kitchen and the Tokyo Studio with doors that can be opened to allow free movement between studios. Embodying the Andaz philosophy of "personal style," these dynamic spaces offer the intimacy and relaxation of a private residence.
The 37th floor AO Spa is symbolized by water. The zoning of the centrally situated pool exudes the sense of expansive space and continuity, offering views right out to Tokyo Bay. The symmetrical sides of the pool are meant to conceptualize yin and yang, and the minimalist color usage creates a beautiful tone throughout.
Chapel: The outer walls are constructed with the same copper shingling found on shrine and temple roofs in a design that will develop in texture and character over time. Natural sunlight gently filters down through the skylight.
Rooftop Bar: A total of four different spaces comprise this bar, with high ceilings, high counter seats, and lounge seats placed as though encircling a hearth. Artwork was created especially for Andaz Tokyo Toranomon Hills, under the direction of Shinichiro Ogata, Designer / Founder of SIMPLICITY, to match the design concept of each space.
Tokyo Studio: The perfect setting for countless occasions, this dynamic corner space offers expansive views of Tokyo. Doors can be opened to allow free movement between studios.
Chef's Studio: An event space with an open show kitchen. The doors to the left and right can be opened, allowing for multipurpose utility alongside the Tokyo Studio and Gallery spaces.
AO Spa: Soft white sets the tone for this 1,350m2 spa and club, which includes a 20 m swimming pool, carbonated bath, floating jet bath, a full range of fitness equipment, and spa treatment rooms.
