Mosman House is a waterfront property situated in a serene cul-de-sac, boasting breathtaking harbour views. The studio was engaged to modernise, expand, and reconfigure the layout of the interiors to better suit the lifestyle of the residing couple, with the central focus on the spectacular views.

The project brief called to modernise, expand, and reconfigure the layout of the interiors whilst maintaining the existing structure of the home, as well as maximising the views of Middle Harbour and Quaker Hat Bay. The interiors were to be warm and spacious with dedicated areas for privacy as well as entertainment.

Reinstating floor to ceiling glazing and generous terraces to the waterfront home achieves capturing the scenic outlook. Skylights, operable louvres, and moments of landscaping bought inside through large windows, create a sense of expansiveness in the space, and allow the northerly light to diffuse through the multi-level home.

The primary focus on the ground floor level, was to create open plan living and entertainment areas. The angled block provided an opportunity to cleverly design a private library space, tucked away from the main social spaces to create a cosy retreat for reading and relaxation.

The first and second floors of the home offer a private retreat and a tranquil atmosphere. They feature the main bedrooms with ensuites, his and her walk-in robes, as well as study areas, which further enhance the quiet mood of the space.

The home also features a curated selection of furniture and complimentary lighting selection.

The client's familiarity with the existing structure and the decision to retain it, combined with their 20+ years of residency, allowed them to provide valuable insights on what was and wasn't working for them. This collaboration with the design team led to a revamped layout that better suited the couple's lifestyle and improved the overall cohesiveness of the space. This approach to retaining the existing structure was a much more sustainable approach rather than demolishing the property.

The finishes selection was contemporary to modernise the existing building. They were deliberately paired back, to emphasis the selection of bespoke furniture and decorative lighting. The carefully curated pieces reflect the couple's unique lifestyle and add character to the space.

Opting to upgrade the existing structure of the home, and reconfiguring the interiors was a sustainable and innovative approach rather than demolishing the property. Although the home was old and outdated and not functioning well internally, choosing to rebuild could have been the obvious solution. However, by upgrading and reconfiguring the space, the design team was able to achieve a more sustainable outcome.
