This factory office building of the former Verkatehdas cloth mill was completed in 1896 by architect Mr Carl Theodor Höijer. Restamax Plc. acquired this beautiful listed building from the municipality in early 2014. Luckily the building did survive the demolition mania of the 1970´s, unfortunately the rest of the industrial red-brick buildings along the east bank of Tammerkoski rapid which runs through the city center of Tampere, Finland, were not so lucky. Since the shut-down of industrial activities the building housed the city tourism office over the last decades.
The building has undergone extensive refurbishment and it is now the home of two amazing restaurants named August von Trappe- Belgian Bistro & Bar (downstairs) and an office space (upstairs), for Restamax Plc. The restaurants are managed by 2-Michelin star chef Mr Hans Välimäki.
Our company Visionary Design Partners Helsinki was in charge of the space planning, interior design and project management on this amazing and one of a kind project. This is what Mr. Välimäki has to say about the outcome of the project.
"Jaana Ekman is Finland's Frank Gehry, a person who is able to create warmth and humanity, a dash of ingenuity and a good dose of glorius appearance in to a space without forgettin the most important thing which is usability. Interiors designed by Jaana are always durable and timeless as well."
