The Trois Rois project was the brainchild of Edgar Wehrli, named best ‘classical’ interior designer at IMM Cologne in 2000. The project was actually completed in 2006 when fourteen carpets with unique designs were delivered to the hotel: twelve Luribaft and two Bulurbaft. Edgar Wehrli has been a Zollanvari customer for many years and appreciates the outstanding quality of the wool, the natural beautiful colours and the authenticity and harmony of the design. Wehrli had previously worked for Thomas Straumann, the owner of the Trois Rois hotel, on the latter’s mountain chalet in Gstaad. They selected the carpets together at the Zollanvari warehouse/showroom in Zurich.
The hotel Trois Rois is located on the very border of the Rhine and is historically the oldest ‘grand’ hotel in Europe, home to poets, thinkers, artists, statesmen, and dignitaries: Napoleon Bonaparte, Willy Brandt, Richard Wagner, Goethe, Voltaire, Jean-Paul Sartre, Marc Chagall, Pablo Picasso, Dalai Lama, Duke Ellington and Ella Fitzgerald have graced the rooms of the establishment. Thomas Straumann acquired the hotel in 2004 and the comprehensive restoration/renovation, which was undertaken under strict conservation guidelines by the architect Christian Lang, uncovered original 1844 frescos in the entrance area. The 2006 reopening saw a hotel equipped with the latest in modern luxurious facilities for discerning guests.
