דWe wanted to create a lightweight chair with superior comfort and a small footprint,” says Copenhagen studio Norm Architects of the elegant and minimal Co Lounge Chair it has created for Danish brand MENU. “We looked to the classics for inspiration, combining steel and woodwork through iconic details and form.”
The product is the latest member to join the Co Chair family, which typifies Norm Architects’ human-centred, minimalist design approach. The Co Chair was developed in collaboration with Els van Hoorebeeck and The Office Group, and the new addition translates the pared-back style of the original dining chair into a low-slung seat for use in a wide range of contexts across the residential, hospitality or commercial sectors.
The chair combines a metal frame with wooden back and armrests, and a leather-upholstered seat that introduces another tactile, textural element

×For the Co Lounge Chair, the designers decided to separate the chair’s components to generate a more spacious arrangement that emphasises its visual lightness. A powder-coated steel frame provides a strong and stable support for a seat, backrest and armrest made from high-quality wood veneer. The angled backrest ensures optimal comfort when lounging and, along with the seat, is curved to embrace the body.
MENU is known for creating contemporary designs that are exceptionally versatile, and the Co Lounge Chair is no different. As with the other pieces in the Co Chair collection, the lounge version can be customised by specifying different upholstery fabrics and wood veneers for the backrest and seat, which enables the chair to adapt effortlessly to suit any interior scheme.
Expect to see it turning up in a co-working space, library, hotel lobby or office reception near you soon.
