SCHOCK’s premium sinks are produced using locally sourced, Bavarian quartz sand – but they’ve imported Iggy Pop as the face of the company’s latest sustainability campaign.

×With the term 'sustainability', it is not always easy to distinguish whether one is being told fairy-tales or not. So it is advisable to take a critical look behind the scenes. In this case, however, everything is genuine: the material, the craftsmanship, the passion and the philosophy. The only person at SCHOCK telling fairy-tales is cult punk-rocker, Iggy Pop.

×Kitchen sinks made of quartz composite have been produced in the Bavarian Forest since 1979. Not just any kitchen sinks, but ones that support future-oriented and, above all, sustainable kitchen concepts. SCHOCK, the inventor of the quartz composite sink, doesn’t just talk, but follows up its words with deeds in line with its ‘Sink Green’ brand philosophy. The new premium sink material, which consists almost entirely of natural, renewable or recycled raw materials, is produced locally and is made from a material that is found regionally in abundance, namely quartz sand.
The product line CRISTADUR Green Line is based on a unique recycling concept in which the sinks can be returned to SCHOCK at the end of their service life and recycled using the latest technology. The old sinks are recycled into new ones without any loss of quality
In order to effectively communicate the message of sustainability, SCHOCK has engaged Iggy Pop to endorse the new lifestyle campaign. In his unique way, Iggy communicates the topic of recycling in relation to the quartz composite sink. He succinctly gets his message across in an unconventional message told like a short fairy-tale: ‘A long, long time ago, all this was an ocean floor and when the water receded, quartz sand was left behind. Finally, a mysterious forest grew here: the Bavarian Forest. Time passed and nothing changed.’ He tells the story of how the sinks made of quartz sand came into being, and which are now produced as sustainable sinks as part of the Sink Green philosophy.
Design with a message. Even if it’s a fairy tale that Iggy Pop is charmingly telling us, he also takes us into the future, with a story that presents SCHOCK’s core values and philosophy
But the material is not SCHOCK’s sole focus. The company also carefully considers the ‘how’. Thus, with SCHOCK’s new concept, the sink has been elevated from its complementary, albeit indispensable, secondary role in the kitchen to being the central focus. With its practical additional functions, The Prepstation D-150 model or the smaller, Mono D-100XS version become smart, useful kitchen-helpers with their practical, additional functions.True to the saying ‘hunger comes with cooking’, the most important steps for preparing a meal are raised to new levels. During the design process, special attention was paid to bundling together as many work steps as possible and concentrating what happens before and during cooking in one area.

×Ultimately, all this has something to do with appreciation, because the Prepstation is a homage to both good food and good design. ‘With the Prepstation, we have virtually created an extension of the worktop with practical, additional benefits. Instead of taking up space in the work area, we can use this product to create space for preparing fresh food,’ says Sven-Michael Funck, Deputy Managing Director at SCHOCK. In addition, the Prepstation can be easily integrated. With its one-and-a-half size sinks and generous 1140 by 460 mm sink dimensions, it is endorsed by semi-professionals and hobby chefs alike, as it optimises all preparation processes. The special Conos Pro tap has an additional side showerhead tap, which increases the radius of reach, as does the integrated work surface.

×Other products in the latest generation of sinks from SCHOCK are just as green and colourful. With the CRISTADUR® Green Line, the company is taking the next important step towards becoming holistically sustainable. The product line is based on a unique recycling concept in which the sinks can be returned to SCHOCK at the end of their service life and recycled using the latest technology. The old sinks are recycled into new sinks without any loss of quality. This method of recycling, which for the time being is only offered in Germany, will be continuously expanded to include further models and colour variants, with the clear aim of creating more sustainability in the kitchen.
