The world’s leading trade fair for floor coverings continues to evolve: from 2018 on, DOMOTEX will feature a new layout, new scheduling and an annual keynote theme.
2018 Keynote Theme: UNIQUE YOUNIVERSE
With UNIQUE YOUNIVERSE, DOMOTEX will be picking up on the constantly growing demand for customisable products and services. Hall 9 will be home to the multi-facetted Framing Trends experience realm, consisting of four main zones serving as a source of inspiration: in the Flooring Spaces zone, exhibitors from the floor coverings industry will be staging highly creative product showcases that play with the theme of individualisation. In the Living Spaces zone, companies from the interior design sector will be presenting inspiring spaces and lifestyle worlds. The NuThinkers zone will be featuring innovative students’ projects focusing on the trend towards individualisation, including a vegan carpet made from cork lozenges whose appearance changes when you step on it, an innovative floor guidance system for the visually impaired, and new materials such as leaves, spruce and fir needles, and beeswax. At Art & Interaction, the theme of UNIQUE YOUNIVERSE can be explored in interactive and multimedia installations featuring exhibits from the worlds of art and design. The Bauhaus project by creative director Thomas J. Biswanger and artist Hansjörg Schneider transforms the Dessau masters’ building into a mirror image made from hard and soft materials. Sculptor Florian Lechner’s three-dimensional Raumskizzen installation uses light and shadow as well as both analogue and virtual elements to blur the boundaries between real and fictitious space. With flugs, artist Jette Hampe presents a flying carpet consisting of countless black and white photos of forest clearings and of people from different nations. Painter and video artist Michael Acapulco will be showing a large installation featuring live footage from the universe.
New exhibition layout and New Exhibition Days
Visitors can look forward to an improved wayfinding system to navigate around the exhibition grounds. The new hall layout bundles product segments and thus helps to get a good overview of the market. For the first time, there will also be a new scheduling: Domotex will take place from Friday to Monday (12-15 January 2018).
DOMOTEX Talks 2018
Alongside the Framing Trends experience in Hall 9, the DOMOTEX Talks (also in Hall 9) will be focusing on the keynote theme too. Current and exciting projects from the fields of architecture and design will be introduced and discussed, spanning the space from idea and design to production and distribution strategies. The speaker line-up will include global industry experts, internationally renowned designers and architects, as well as founders of amazing start-ups and next-generation designers.
