Around the world, businesses are stepping up to take responsibility for their impact on climate change. Currently 31% of Global Fortune 500 companies have carbon neutrality goals and 50% of those have achieved or will achieve carbon neutrality by 2030. One step towards that goal can be investing in carbon neutral workspace products.

With this in mind, Steelcase has launched its first carbon neutral product, the Steelcase Series 1 with CarbonNeutral® product certification. Chosen for its popularity, the task chair is available in 11 membrane colours and a wide range of finishes, with flexible LiveBack technology, adaptive bolstering and 4D adjustable arms. And now, it can be specified with the added benefit of an offset carbon footprint.

To make this possible, Steelcase invested in the complex measurement of the chair’s carbon emissions at every step of its lifecycle, which has then been independently verified. So when the Steelcase Series 1 with CarbonNeutral® product certification is purchased, Steelcase offsets 100% of those emissions by investing in projects such as forest management, renewable energy and electric transportation, which, collectively, help to slow the effects of climate change. The chairs come with a CarbonNeutral product certification by third party Climate Impact Partners in accordance with The CarbonNeutral Protocol.

Steelcase aims to reduce its own absolute emissions by 50% by 2030 and encourage other companies to take similar action

This new CarbonNeutral® portfolio is central to Steelcase’s goal to reduce its own absolute emissions 50% by 2030, and encouraging other businesses to join in setting their own goals. For Steelcase, this is just the beginning – more products are set to join the portfolio soon, all the while continuing proactive improvements to processes and products guided by its long-term Sustainable Design Framework.
