Minotti's new textiles combine technological innovation with sustainable values

Textiles designed for both the indoor and outdoor collections play a major role for Minotti, not surprisingly since high-quality upholstery is one of its key strengths. With their subtle textures and weaves, the outdoor fabrics harmonise with those used for the indoor collections. They are also highly durable, carefully selected to resist wear and tear and weather the elements, and made of polypropylene yarns.

The upholstery fabrics for the company’s indoor and outdoor furniture are designed by Minotti Studio, Minotti’s creative department, which is proficient in all the skills required during the creative process. The expertise practised at Minotti Studio exemplifies the ‘Made in Italy’ tradition, characterised by excellence in terms of both creativity and craftsmanship. A total of 13 new, extraordinarily soft textiles have been introduced this year.

The company has invested hugely in Minotti Studio recently, upgrading its technology, cutting areas and facilities for engineering yarns. It also works closely with yarn suppliers to select fabrics precisely suited to every new design. They are then fabricated by carefully selected suppliers, all truly committed to sustainability. Minotti favours yarns made from recycled fibres and polyester fibres derived from mass-dyed yarns. These reduce consumption of CO2, water and electricity during the production process, and yield colour-fast fabrics – all of which contribute to Minotti’s production of exquisitely made furniture.

The 13 new fabrics reflect the aesthetic complexity of the 2021 collection. The fabrics feature brand new geometries, fine weaves created with jacquard looms and chenille yarns used very subtly to enhance softness. These will appeal to interior designers working in both the residential and hospitality sectors, who wish to customise Minotti’s furniture with their preferred fabric and so put their own stamp on their projects.

Maintaining high standards of craftsmanship with its impeccable stitching and sewing, Minotti’s upholstery is akin to haute couture. Rodolfo Dordoni’s Roger seating and his Belt chairs from the new collection stand out for their sophisticated upholstery and exquisite craftsmanship.

A distinguishing feature of Roger is its quilting, which creates the characterful horizontal bands on its upholstery and offers supremely comfortable seating. Couture references come to the fore with Belt, thanks to its sartorial name and central structural conceit – a belt that encircles the design, then fastens on the front of it.

The chairs appeal as much for their cocooning forms as for their intricate, technically accomplished upholstery: on the leather version, the belt-like strip is sewn onto bonded leather to make it stronger. Belt meets the highest standards of upholstery with its impeccable seams and stitching.
