In the short-term, maintaining Covid-fighting environments means regularly sanitised surfaces. But like hands that become brittle and cracked when over-cleaned, fabrics can suffer the same fate under regular disinfection, losing their texture, cracking and colour fading.

×The modern obsession with creating sterilised surfaces is a necessity, but it must do so without sacrificing aesthetics, function or the environment. The continued destruction of the environment has long been a concern, way before the Covid-crisis began and will, without doubt, continue afterwards. As a manufacturer of PVC, Morbern feels a responsibility and commitment to lead the industry towards change with innovative development and production processes. ‘Unlike other coated fabrics, 50% of PVC is made up of common salt,’ says Equeter, ‘making it much less reliant on fossil fuel and easier to recycle than other polymers such as PU.’

×Today, 99 per cent of the energy used in Morbern’s production is renewable, the water used in its process is clean enough to drink while the combination of phthalate-free formulations, water-based topcoats and plasticisers derived from soya beans, mean Morbern’s products use more bio-renewable ingredients than ever before, aiming to launch new ranges with a sustainability level of 78 per cent by the end of the year.
This passion for change means that Morbern’s materials are presently some of the greenest on the market, creating not only more comfortable seating, but a more comfortable world.
