The real deal: Ritzwell

The furniture of Japanese design brand Ritzwell can often be found bringing beauty and function to the interiors of high-end hospitality projects from yachts to 5-star hotels all over the world. L Side Cafe in a Lexus car showroom in Osaka was a first for the brand.

At the L Side Cafe, designers Blurry Inc. chose a full concept of Ritzwell furniture to express both local appeal for customers sharing a coffee and conversation, as well as the global ambition of car manufacturer Lexus.

Each Ritzwell design balances the highest quality craft and engineering with a proudly Japanese sensitivity and tradition. This mediation is captured nicely in the curve of the Rivage easy chair, selected for the cafe – crafted for maximum comfort, it also references the shape of the ancient Japanese katana (sword).

While interior designer Kohei Ishimaru sensed the ‘commitment, care, and strong intent’ in each individual Ritzwell piece, he was also drawn to the harmony of the pieces placed together. He combined five different styles for practical variety, and in the process generated a uniquely elegant atmosphere.

Comfort was important for the cafe interior, which was inspired by the ‘doma’, an in-between space in Japanese homes used as an informal neighbourly meeting place. The warm wood and soft upholstery of Ritzwell’s designs brought this welcoming domestic touch to balance the bright lights and hard surfaces of the cafe.

Customers will appreciate sinking into the Beatrix High Back Easy Chair. Its deeply curved headrest and soft cushion layer are carefully designed to be form-fitting to the body, while detailed handiwork emphasises its exquisite style.
