WantedDesign 2014

NYCxDESIGN has officially begun in New York and this year, WantedDesign’s fourth, the platform has truly established itself as a premier creative destination for the international design community during NYCxDESIGN. This year has a sizeable representation from the Americas, Europe, and Australia and once again will host a rich program shaped by engaging conversations with design industry thought leaders and tastemakers, fresh perspectives from new collaborations and inspiring designers, a Launch Pad aimed at bringing prototypes to life and the Design Schools Workshop.

Conversation Series
This year we’ve added in the daily themes of Design Around the World (5/17), Designing, Making, Transforming (5/18) and, What’s Next in the U.S.A.? (5/19). Our three-day Conversation Series (12-1 p.m. each day) will support these topics and with our diverse mix of industry professionals we’re sure to have engaging conversations with invaluable insight.

Beyond the talks, set to take place in Grimshaw’s Conversation Room, and the show's 60+ exhibitors, attendees can preview prototype products in the Launch Pad and check out the visionary outcomes from the Design Schools Workshop – "The Future of Paper"– that includes participating schools from around the world. Launch Pad
For its second year, the Launch Pad will return with a group of select, market-ready prototypes from 16 international design studios and independent designers seeking a manufacturer or distributor. The final list of Launch Pad international designers is Alice Tacheny, Andrea Borgogni, Giorgio Bonaguro, danielmoyerdesign, Danielle Trofe Design, DesignLaboratoire, Elish Warlop, HUXHUX Design, Violaine d’Harcourt, Infusion Furniture, Kem3D, Nimble Scooters, Savage Works, Studio Avni, Aarti Kathuria, and Dana Cannam Design and Earnest Studio.

Design Schools Workshop
Led by the Art Center College of Design’s Associate Professors of Environmental Design, Penny Herscovitch & Dan Gottlieb, and hosted by rOtring creative tools, the 2014 Design Schools Workshop challenges students to re-envision the expressive qualities of paper in the context of ubiquitous computing, much as painting was reinvented after the camera was popularized. Our talented students from global design schools will receive a professional tool set of rOtring creative tools to fuel their work and will be surrounded by Molo’s beautiful paper walls and sittings to create an inspiring environment. Students will also have the ability to print small and large-scale projects using an HP printer and will receive additional guidance during the work in progress reviews.
