Barefoot Design stands for realization of interdisciplinary projects in interior design and architecture. We create spaces with fascinating atmosphere and a perfection in form and design according to the philosophy of Nik and Til Schweiger.

Biography

Interior designer Nikolaus Schweiger was born on October 4, 1965 in Freiburg, Germany. He developed his interest in architecture at an early stage and worked as an all-round craft man during his school years while undertaking his alternative civilian service. This work led to his motivation to study Interior Design from 1987-1991 in Wiesbaden. In 1991, his final exam project with best marks, a kitchen „cooking island“, won him the first prize at the DDC. Additionally, during his study years, in 1990 in Kotrijk, he was awarded the first prize for lighting.

After graduation, he worked as an interior designer at Meire & Meire, one of the leading German communication agencies in Wiesbaden. His good reputation quickly caught the attention of many established interior designer: He worked for Philippe Starck in Paris, France and afterwards he continued to work for Matteo Thun in Milan, Italy.

Aside from his primary work, Nik teamed up with communication designers Andreas and Stephan Lauhoff and founded the designing company “3deluxe” in 1992. Together, they accomplished a great number of projects that received much attention internationally and also won numerous prices. 3deluxe created internationally recognized projects such as the Scape Youth Media Worlds at the EXPO 2000, the D‘Fly jewelry shop in NYC, the Cocoonclub in Frankfurt and the Cyberhelvetia Pavillon at the Expo.o2 in Switzerland. Furthermore, he contributed to the successful draft design of the Leonardo Cube, opened 2007.

Nik Schweiger’s severe head surgery in 1998 changed his entire life. This life-changing experience inspired him to ally with then-wife Soryonne Schweiger and found Biorythm-Modern-Recreation under the label 3deluxe Biorhythm. This approach is inspired by his own rehabilitation and its focus is on recreation, design and sustainability. The integrative approach is aiming for contemplative working, stimulated communication, creativity and conclusion during relaxation in a spa.

In 2009, the Design Hotel Roomers in Frankfurt opened a roof construction with this Biorythm concept. In view of his exceptional track record, he was awarded in July 2009, German Interior Designer of the Year. Additionally, in October 2010, the Roomers Hotel was elected as the best Hotel of the year and the second best Business Hotel in Europe. In 2009, he entered the market with Klafs with the Biorythm range. He developed the Floating Lounge with UWE Jetstreams which he presented at the Interbad in October 2010.

He developed the Biorythm Aphrodite Leuchte with Zumtobel, which ahead of its final release on the Light Building fair in 2012, already been installed in the well-known Tamina Hotsprings in Bad Ragaz in Switzerland. In the last decade, Nik Schweiger held a dozen lectures in German and English including at the „Innovation Day“ of Deutsche Telekom in 2010 and at the German „Innovationsummit for Sustainability“ in 2011.

In 2014, Nik Schweiger teamed up with his brother, actor and film director Til Schweiger and founded Barefoot Design. Barefoot Design stands for the implementation of interdisciplinary projects in the environment of architecture and interior design.
