Dan Brunn, AIA
Principal
Dan Brunn, AIA, founded his Los Angeles-based firm, Dan Brunn Architecture, in 2005. Widely published, Dan’s work includes all retail, hospitality, cultural, and residential projects. The architect utilizes provocative spatial choreography to harmonize light with volume. Inspired by the Bauhaus architecture of his native Tel Aviv, he reinterprets Modernist principles in minimalist designs for living, shopping, and dining. Named a “Rising Star” by Architectural Digest, Dan’s portfolio includes furniture design that addresses the needs of living room, bedroom, and bath with highly functional, sophisticated, and streamlined solutions. His first home project, Flip Flop, has appeared in more that 135 websites and publications internationally. Dan lectures frequently and is a brand ambassador for Bosch. He earned a B.Arch at University of Southern California, and a M.Arch from Harvard University’s Graduate School of Design.
“MODERNISM MEANS TO LIVE IN THE NOW"
As a young architect, he has produced remarkably diverse projects— from award-winning restaurants to single-family residences and commercial showrooms. Consistent throughout each typology is an honoring of materiality, the ability to infuse ethereal natural light, and a tactful “hiding of mechanics.” His portfolio also includes furniture design in a variety of sleek, highly functional pieces offering streamlined solutions for the living room, bedroom, and bath.
Prior to establishing his firm, Dan was Lead Project Designer at John Friedman Alice Kimm Architects, where he served as project architect on the National AIA award-winning design of the Los Angeles Design Center. He also taught a Masters studio at the Boston Architectural Center, and served as design studio instructor at Harvard Graduate School of Design (GSD) and the USC School of Architecture.
Dan earned a Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Southern California in 2001 and a Master of Architecture from Harvard (GSD) University in 2005. To draw inspiration from movement and rhythm, he composes music and performs with his band, DLD.
