Profile
DORELL.GHOTMEH.TANE / ARCHITECTS is an international partnership founded in 2006 in Paris and practicing Architecture, Urbanism and Space Design. It is lead by three architects: Dan Dorell, Lina Ghotmeh and Tsuyoshi Tane and collaborates with a multicultural team of more than 15 architects and professionals of interdisciplinary fields.
The partnership gained an international reputation through its design of the Estonian National Museum and through a series of cutting edge yet phenomenally sensitive projects. DGT is today one of the leading practices of architects. It has been widely published and has won several awards among which the NAJAP 2007-08' – French Ministry of Culture Architecture 2008 Prize, The Ressegna Lombardia di Archittettura 2008 Prize in Italy and was selected as one of the «10 for 2010 Visionary Architects for a new decade» by the European Architects Review.
“DGT deploys the atmosphere of the uncanny in the Freudian sense of the term, providing a welcomed ambiguity, which introduces a soft dizziness from the unknown and already there. Together, they are engaged in creating significant places, without getting lost with the maze of ‘trendiness’ that appeal to many architects of their generation. Timeless, their architecture takes place in duration. Resulting compositions groping between the structures of a diamond extracted from the rock, whose beauty is expressed in the work of these architecture craftsmen and craftwomen’s tools. Pearls shaped and polished over time, reflecting its unsuspected depths. At all times, they are looking for a reflection of the present time, without falling into the spectacular. Inviting the visitors and users of their sites to travel still into a promising fu¬ture. With brilliance and elegance.” Rafaël Magrou, Journalist and Exhibition Curator
THINKING ARCHITECTURE
It is in an increasingly globalized world that three architects from the different sides of the world were able to join into one practice their culture-s, their past experiences and their different methodologies on the production of architecture. Having worked in a wide range of different cities on major projects, the three principal architects have developed a great sensitivity to deal with each complexity framing their projects. When solicited to design in diverse distant contexts, DGT is keen to develop sustainable and user specific architecture. The practice believes that, despite the homogenizing effects of globalization on architecture and design, unique and sensitive designs can escape “trendy” forms through a researched and multidisciplinary design process.
DGT aims at revealing high quality, precise and unexpected spaces; be it a museum, a dance scenography or an art installation. The practice's creative process involves an extensive research stage, a sort of archaeology of the physical, historical or anthropological traces layered in the project's place and time: A vital design tool that reasserts the strength of the minute physical matter of each of DGT projects.
