FDB Møbler
Furniture ought to make room for people. That has been our philosophy since 1942, when FDB Møbler was founded, with architect Børge Mogensen heading up the stu- dio. Many new designers have since entered the fold, but the foundational principles remain the same: To create beautiful, functional and exceptionally crafted furniture that makes room for everyday living at home. And that can withstand everyday wear and tear to age gracefully with those who use them.
FDB Møbler is internationally known as a frontrunner of Danish design. It’s a story of classic pieces to be passed down from generation to generation. In fact, every new piece of FDB Møbler is born as an heirloom. The values that FDB Møbler was founded upon continue to shape every piece of oak and beech. They are woven into the seats and are upheld in each design, both when our ever-popular classics are re-issued from our design archives, and when we launch brand new designs.
Regardless of whether we are talking about iconic pieces from FDB Møbler’s classic collections or new, innovative designs, the goal is the same: To have the veritable quality of life that was envisioned when the first pieces of furniture emerged from our studio in 1942.
The Human Standard
How much space do you need to stretch out your arms? How should the back of a chair be angled for the sitter to be able to lean back in comfort? “Furniture must serve the people ...” as Børge Mogensen once said. Each piece by FDB Møbler is conceived and designed to meet the needs and desires of people. In other words, it is about supporting people in feeling at home. FDB Møbler’s furniture does not dominate or command attention. It fits in anywhere, and while it is recognized around the world for its clean lines and functional details, it is not decorative. And behind every piece of FDB Møbler, there is a designer striving for sustainable quality and freedom from fashion and trends.
That is what makes FDB Møbler furniture timeless.
Longevity
Longevity not only applies to timeless design, but also to physical details. Our choice of materials and methods of construction ensure a robustness and quality that can withstand the rigours of daily life. Of course, furniture ought to have aesthetic merit, but it is craftsmanship that makes great design withstand the test of time. All pieces by FDB Møbler pass through many skilled hands and undergo countless processes before they are ready to be placed in someone’s home. This has been one of our core values since 1942. Our furniture is not meant to dominate,
but to be so well built that it can last for generations. This virtue we still hold dear.
Responsibility
FDB Møbler is part of a cooperative that, since 1866, has steadily fought for better quality
at lower prices for everyday living. Our ideology demands that we take care of the environment and protect people’s health and safety, starting with the wood we use and in every other aspect of what we do. Our furniture is produced using only FSC certified sustainable wood, and all our fabrics are Oeko-Tex® certified. Everything we create is also made with consideration for the workshop’s employees and the surrounding environment. We protect the forests we harvest from, and we do not take from nature without giving back.
Accessibility
FDB Møbler is committed to offering designer furniture at accessible prices while never compromising on quality. That has been our mantra from the beginning, and it still holds true today. We believe in timeless design and in the aesthetic choice to buy high-quality furniture. We believe that, in the long run, it is important to pick and choose with care. This is also why our designers are hand-picked. They are chosen because they share FDB Møbler’s values and can also put their own unique imprint on history.
