Hans “Nick” Roericht, born in 1932, studied at the Academy of Design in Ulm (HfG) where he later became a lecturer. He also lectured at the University of Columbus, Ohio. In 1976 he founded his own studio, ProduktEntwicklung Roericht, directly adjacent to the HfG. From 1973 until he became an Emeritus Professor in 2001, he taught industrial design at the Hochschule für Künste in Berlin (University of Fine Arts). Today, he manages the “Hans Roericht Foundation” that is dedicated to promoting talented designers. Roericht designed numerous ranges for Wilkhahn, including the 190 chair range, the 840 lounge range, the Kendo range and the Picto office chair range. With the “Stitz” leaning aid, he developed a distinctive design classic that has been regarded as an icon of Wilkhahn design principles until today.
