Profile

The beginning of the collaboration of Erich Hubmann and Andreas Vass dates from their common occupation, during their studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna, with questions of landscape, urban morfology and socio-cultural aspects in traditional building types. In 1986 a four month stage and research was carried out in Fez, Morocco. Since 1988 they are working together in their studio in Vienna on a wide range of public and private commissions.

In 1990 they won the worldwide competition for the Reorganization and redevelopment of the landscape areas connected to the new access to the Alhambra, Granada and consequently worked on the forthcoming of this project, which was realized up to 1997. They were invited to various international and national competitions and workshops dealing with problems of urban and landscape redevelopment, as for instance for the Extension of San Michele cemetry, in Venice. Up to 2011 they realized their winning project for the Rivoli Castle hillside and mechanized stairway. Remodelling and design works for the word-famous glass-firm Lobmeyr and private clients.

Besides they have developed a broad teaching activity at European and extra European architecture schools.

Andreas Vass is founding member of IG-Architektur and member of the board of ÖGFA (Österreichische Gesellschaft für Architektur).
